The final V8-powered Toyota Supra that many enthusiasts have been waiting for has become a reality. However, this version is not for the streets, but a dedicated racing car that will compete in the 2025 Supercars Championship in Australia.

The Toyota GR Supra sports car for the Supercars Championship has just been officially launched in Australia. However, unlike the commercial version based on the BMW Z4, this sports car has an upgraded V8 engine.

Specifically, Toyota Australia collaborated with the Walkinshaw Andretti United racing team to develop the GEN3 GR Supra Supercar. This is the first time the "legendary" Japanese sports car Supra has appeared in this prestigious race, with a total of 6 cars produced to compete.

The car's exterior has been redesigned with a powerful aerodynamic kit, large spoiler, ultra-light alloy wheels, high-performance tires and an anti-roll frame in the interior, helping to increase stability and safety at high speeds.

Instead of the 3.0L I6 or 2.0L I4 engine from BMW, the Toyota GR Supra Supercar is equipped with a 2UR-GSE naturally aspirated V8 engine, shared with the Lexus LC 500 and RC F.

However, to meet technical requirements, the capacity of this engine has been increased from 5.0L to 5.2L. The operating system parameters of this racing car have not been announced by Toyota.

This can be considered a compatible upgrade, as the car will compete with rivals such as the Ford Mustang (5.4L V8 engine) or Chevrolet Camaro (5.7L V8 engine).

The car will be used by Walkinshaw Andretti United and Brad Jones Racing in the Australian Supercars Championship. It is currently undergoing wind tunnel, AVL dyno and track testing.

Notably, the Supra V8 will make an impressive appearance at the Repco Bathurst 1000 race at Mount Panorama with a test lap, before officially entering the remaining races in 2025.

The Toyota Supra debuted in 1978 with a design borrowed from its predecessor, the Celica sports car. In 2002, the Japanese automaker announced the Supra's demise. Nine years later, Toyota launched a collaboration project with BMW to create a new sports car.
