Bernardo Silva is likely to leave Manchester City after this season. According to Spanish media reports, the Portuguese midfielder has made it clear to the club's management that he has no intention of signing a new contract.
Silva's current contract expires this summer. The 31-year-old star is earning around £300,000 per week at the Etihad Stadium.
Manchester City reportedly wanted to keep Silva for at least another year. If that happened, the midfielder would have spent a full 10 years with the club. However, according to Marca , Silva decided it was time to seek a new challenge.
For the remainder of the season, Silva continued to play under manager Pep Guardiola. The midfielder made 38 appearances in all competitions during the 2025/26 season and scored 2 goals.
Unless he changes his mind, Silva will become a free agent in the transfer market next summer.
Barcelona has been repeatedly mentioned in rumors linking Silva. The Catalan club is reportedly still interested in the Portuguese midfielder. However, his high salary could be a major obstacle for the financially struggling team.
In addition, Saudi Arabia is also considered a potential destination. Many Portuguese players, such as Cristiano Ronaldo and Ruben Neves, are currently playing there. If Silva moves to the Middle East, he could receive a higher salary than his current contract.
Additionally, the possibility of returning to Benfica – his boyhood club – has also been mentioned.
Bernardo Silva joined Manchester City from Monaco in 2017 for a fee of around £43 million. In almost a decade at Etihad, he became one of the team's key players.
The midfielder has won six Premier League titles, two FA Cups, and four League Cups with Manchester City. He was also part of the squad that helped the club win the Champions League for the first time in 2023.
To date, Silva has scored 75 goals in 445 appearances for Manchester City across all competitions.
