TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia’s men’s singles player Jonatan Christie failed to maintain his early momentum and was knocked out in the first round of the BWF World Tour Super 750 Singapore Open 2026 after losing to India’s H. S. Prannoy on Wednesday.
According to the Badminton World Federation (BWF), Jonatan went down 21-10, 12-21, 18-21 in a 61-minute match.
Statistics showed that Jonatan, popularly known as “Jojo,” started strongly and dominated the opening game, giving Prannoy little room to develop his rhythm.
After trailing 0-2 early on, Jonatan quickly recovered control. He led 11-5 at the interval and extended the gap to 16-8 before comfortably taking the first game 21-10.
The match shifted in the second game as Prannoy found his tempo and began to apply pressure from the outset. After a tight start at 7-5, the Indian shuttler pulled ahead 11-7 at the interval.
Jonatan attempted to close the gap, but Prannoy remained composed in controlling the pace and secured the second game 21-12 to force a decider.
The third game was closely contested, with Jonatan falling behind 3-6 before leveling at 6-6. Both players traded points in a tense battle, including deadlocks at 10-10 and 18-18.
Jonatan briefly led 11-10 at the interval and later regained a narrow advantage at 16-15 in the closing stages, but failed to sustain the momentum.
Prannoy proved stronger in the decisive moments, winning three consecutive points after an 18-18 tie to seal the match 21-18.
The defeat ended Jonatan’s campaign early in Singapore.
Indonesia still has one representative in the men’s singles draw as Alwi Farhan advanced to the second round after defeating France’s Toma Junior Popov 21-19, 21-14. He will next face top seed China’s Shi Yuqi on Thursday, May 28.
