In a viral TikTok video, a woman from Charlotte, North Carolina, tries to eat a cheese bagel on the couch, but her golden retriever has other plans.
The hilarious clip shared on Monday under the username @thefinnstagram, shows the pup, Finn, approaching his owner on the couch as she eats her snack. He just places his face right by the bagel, letting her know he is ready to share it.
"Trying to eat my bagel in peace but my golden retriever wants to make sure I know he'd be willing to shared it," reads layover text in the clip. "Finn said if you're too hungover to finish that I can handle it," the caption says.
The poster, Bridget Foos, told Newsweek that her 2-year-old pup is the "silliest and sweetest dog ever" and is known in her family for all of his quirks. "He loves taking trips to local dog parks and will always beg for a treat. He truly believes all of my best friends are his girlfriends, and he gets so excited when he sees them," she said.
"Like most goldens, he is always hungry," Foos said. "I was eating a bagel on Sunday morning, and he decided to hop on the couch, hoping to get a bite, something he usually only does when I have a bag of popcorn, his favorite snack. I figured some people would think it was funny, but had no idea the traction it would pick up."
While Finn didn't get any of the bagel, he did get a milk bone. When his post hit over 1 million views, he also got a celebratory cheeseburger from McDonald's, which is his favorite treat, reserved for very special occasions.
"He's my very best friend, and I'm so lucky to have him. He is the happiest boy and everything I hoped for in my dog and so much more. I really hope he helped brighten someone else's day as much as he always brightens mine," Foos added.
While sharing food with your pup can be fun, not everything that we eat is safe for them. Many common human foods are toxic to dogs and can cause serious health issues or even death.
Dangerous items include caffeine (from coffee, tea, soda), chocolate (especially dark and baking chocolate), and alcohol, all of which can lead to seizures, tremors, and organ failure.
Fruits such as grapes, raisins, cherries, apples (seeds), and peaches (pits) are also harmful due to toxins that can cause kidney failure or cyanide poisoning. Onions, garlic, and chives destroy red blood cells, leading to anemia. Xylitol, a sugar substitute in gums and mints, causes insulin spikes, leading to liver failure.
Avocados, macadamia nuts, almonds, and mustard seeds can induce vomiting, tremors, or blockages. Mushrooms, raw meat and eggs, salty foods, rhubarb, green tomatoes, and raw potatoes are all risky. Unbaked yeast dough causes bloating and alcohol poisoning.
Dairy products can cause digestive issues for canines, and human medications like ibuprofen or aspirin are potentially fatal. It is important to call your veterinarian immediately if you think your dog has ingested dangerous foods.
